Indonesia, My First Java Volcano. Episode 34

In October 2010, the volcano erupted killing 32 people and 40,000 others were forced to flee. It also erupted the year after we summitted, killing 25 people. We summit in the dark of night and stop to visit the graves of previous climbers. We set off in the dead of night to summit Mt Merapi, our first Java volcano (2,968 m). It has erupted regularly since 1548 and killed 64 people in 1994 but has not had a major eruption since 2006.
